“Chart Your Course! Let Your Business Partners
Help You Navigate the Career Pathways of the Future.”
The Central Midlands School-to-Work Partnership has established four business alliances that correspond to the career clusters: Health/Medical, Public Services, Engineering/Industrial, and Business/Information Systems. This partnership has created four student career pathway booklets that can be used by business partners and educators alike.
The partnership has developed several ways to help increase parent, student, and educator awareness of career opportunities within these career cluster areas. Newspaper ads are run on a space available basis highlighting a particular cluster area, and which have generated numerous phone calls from parents and grandparents. The partnership also maintains a Speakers Guide of 150+ persons from local businesses who are willing to come to schools and speak to students about career options within their area. In 2002, the partnership plans to expand this connection with local businesses to include job-shadowing opportunities for students.
For educators, the partnership has developed a “teacher in the workplace” program in which teachers work for three weeks and earn $7/hour. Participating teachers are also eligible for three hours of credit.
